3D Vacuum Sublimation Machine in Uganda: Phone Cases, Mugs, and 3D Objects

By August 14, 2026No Comments

What is a 3D Vacuum Sublimation Machine?

A 3D vacuum sublimation machine combines heat with vacuum suction to transfer sublimation prints onto three-dimensional objects that cannot be pressed effectively in a standard flat or cylindrical heat press. The vacuum pulls a sublimation film tightly and uniformly around the contoured surface of the 3D object, ensuring the ink transfers evenly across curved edges, corners, and complex shapes.

In Uganda’s growing personalised gifts and branded merchandise market, 3D vacuum sublimation machines are used primarily for custom phone cases — the highest-volume 3D sublimation product — as well as mugs with unusual shapes, keyrings, plates, and other novelty items.

How a 3D Vacuum Sublimation Machine Works

  1. Print the design — Print on sublimation paper using sublimation inks, mirrored
  2. Wrap the object — Wrap the sublimation paper around or under the 3D object (phone case, mug, etc.) and tape in place
  3. Load into the machine — Place the wrapped object inside the vacuum chamber. Multiple objects can be processed simultaneously depending on the machine capacity
  4. Set parameters — Set temperature (typically 180°C–200°C) and time (typically 180–300 seconds depending on the substrate)
  5. Close and activate — Close the lid and start the cycle. The machine heats while simultaneously drawing a vacuum that presses the sublimation film tightly against all surfaces of the 3D object
  6. Release and unwrap — After the cycle, the vacuum releases, the machine opens, and the finished object is removed. Peel the paper immediately

Products You Can Make with a 3D Vacuum Sublimation Machine in Uganda

Phone Cases

By far the highest-volume product from 3D vacuum sublimation in Uganda. Custom photo phone cases for all major smartphone models (Samsung, Tecno, Infinix, iPhone, Huawei) are in constant demand. Blank phone cases must be specifically designed for sublimation (white-coated plastic or 3D-wrap compatible material).

Selling price range: UGX 25,000 – UGX 60,000 per case

Production cost: UGX 5,000 – UGX 12,000 per case

Sports Water Bottles

Sublimation onto coated aluminium or stainless steel sports bottles. Popular for personalised gifts, corporate merchandise, and school prizes.

Keyrings and Tags

Small aluminium keyrings with sublimation-coated surface. High-margin product; low blank cost (UGX 500–1,500 each) with high selling price (UGX 8,000–20,000 personalised).

Photo Tiles and Ornaments

Flat or shaped ceramic/MDF tiles for photo printing and wall decoration. Some shapes (curved, heart-shaped, star-shaped) require vacuum pressing rather than flat pressing for even transfer.

Shaped Mugs

Heart-shaped mugs, tapered mugs, and other non-standard cylindrical mugs that do not fit standard cylindrical mug press elements require the 3D vacuum machine for full-wrap sublimation.

Machine Sizes and Capacity

Machine Type Capacity per Cycle Price (UGX)
Standard desktop 3D vacuum 4–8 phone cases or mixed small items 2,500,000 – 4,500,000
Large capacity 3D vacuum 12–20 items per cycle 5,000,000 – 10,000,000

Phone Case Sublimation Business Profitability in Uganda

The phone case market in Uganda is enormous — Uganda has one of the highest mobile phone penetration rates in East Africa, with millions of Tecno, Samsung, and Infinix users. Custom photo phone cases are a popular gift for every occasion. A 3D vacuum machine pressing 20 phone cases per day at UGX 18,000 average profit per case generates UGX 360,000/day — UGX 7,200,000/month — from phone cases alone.

What You Need Alongside the 3D Vacuum Machine

  • Sublimation printer (A4 minimum; wide-format for roll production)
  • Sublimation inks and sublimation paper
  • Blank sublimation phone cases (for all major phone models sold in Uganda)
  • Heat-resistant tape and silicone pads
  • Silicone moulds for specific phone models (included with most machines)
