Types of Heat Press Machines in Uganda: A Complete Guide to Every Style

By August 14, 2026No Comments

What is a Heat Press Machine?

A heat press machine applies controlled heat and pressure to transfer designs onto a substrate — fabric, ceramic, metal, or other materials. It is the core piece of equipment in any garment decoration or personalised product business. The machine consists of a heated upper platen (the pressing surface) and a lower platen or form, which together sandwich the substrate and transfer material under precise temperature and time settings.

Heat press machines in Uganda are used for: DTF transfers, HTV (heat transfer vinyl), sublimation printing on mugs and garments, rhinestone application, patches, and specialised transfers like glitter foil and flock.

The Main Types of Heat Press Machines

1. Clamshell Heat Press

The most common heat press type in Uganda. The upper platen opens upward from the front like a clamshell hinge. Compact, affordable, and efficient for flat garments. Best for T-shirts, hoodies, tote bags, and flat fabrics. The clamshell design makes it faster to open and close per cycle, ideal for high-volume production.

Price range in Uganda: UGX 1,200,000 – UGX 3,500,000

2. Swing-Away Heat Press

The upper platen swings 360° to the side, completely clearing the lower platen. This gives full, unobstructed access to position garments and transfers precisely. Safer than clamshell for thick items and better for operators who need to adjust placement. Takes more horizontal workspace than clamshell.

Price range in Uganda: UGX 2,000,000 – UGX 5,500,000

3. Draw (Slide-Out) Heat Press

The lower platen slides outward like a drawer while the upper platen remains fixed. The operator loads the garment on the extended lower platen, slides it back under the upper platen, and presses. Reduces risk of hand burns and allows precise garment positioning away from the heat source.

Price range in Uganda: UGX 3,500,000 – UGX 8,000,000

4. Mug Heat Press

Cylindrical heating element designed specifically for wrapping and heating mugs, tumblers, and cylindrical substrates. The substrate is wrapped with a sublimation print and secured with heat tape before pressing. Available as standalone mug presses or as attachments for combo heat press machines.

Price range in Uganda: UGX 800,000 – UGX 2,500,000

5. Cap / Hat Heat Press

Curved lower platen designed to match the curved surface of baseball caps. Produces transfers on the front panel of caps without distortion. Standard flat platens cannot press curved surfaces correctly; a cap press is essential for professional hat decoration results.

Price range in Uganda: UGX 1,000,000 – UGX 2,800,000

6. Combo (Multi-Function) Heat Press

A single machine that includes interchangeable platens for flat garments, mugs, caps, and sometimes plates. The most versatile option for a new personalised gifts business that wants to offer multiple product types without investing in separate machines for each substrate.

Price range in Uganda: UGX 1,800,000 – UGX 4,500,000

7. Sublimation Calendar Roller Press

Industrial-scale roller heat press designed for continuous, high-volume sublimation of fabric rolls. Used in textile printing businesses producing all-over-print fabrics, sportswear panels, or soft signage. Not suitable for small businesses; for commercial production at scale.

Price range in Uganda: UGX 18,000,000 – UGX 55,000,000

8. Pneumatic (Auto) Heat Press

Uses compressed air (pneumatic cylinder) to apply and release pressure automatically. The operator loads the garment, activates the press with a foot pedal or button, and the machine applies precise, consistent pressure automatically. Eliminates operator fatigue in high-volume production and ensures more consistent results than manual pressure application.

Price range in Uganda: UGX 6,000,000 – UGX 20,000,000

9. 3D Vacuum Sublimation Machine

Combines a vacuum chamber with heat to sublimate onto 3D objects — phone cases, curved mugs, plates, keyrings, and other non-flat substrates. The vacuum draws the sublimation film uniformly around the 3D object surface during heating, ensuring even colour transfer on curved surfaces.

Price range in Uganda: UGX 2,500,000 – UGX 6,000,000

10. Large Format Heat Press

Oversized flat platens (typically 60×80cm or larger) for pressing large-area transfers — full-front prints on hoodies, banner-sized sublimation panels, and large sportswear all-over-print transfers. Essential for businesses doing large-scale DTF transfers or wide sublimation panels.

Price range in Uganda: UGX 4,500,000 – UGX 12,000,000
